Joyce Reardon (Nancy Travis), a professor in the psychology department at a university near Seattle, believes firmly in paranormal activities and teaches a class dedicated to it every spring semester. However, Professor Carl Miller (David Dukes), the head of the department, believes she is wasting funds and a lunatic. Joyce plans an investigation with a team of six psychics into the most infamous haunted house in the world, Rose Red, to gather evidence of paranormal activities and vindicate her work. This is all made possible because she is in a relationship with the last living heir, Steve Rimbauer (Matt Keeslar). Although five of the six psychics are powerful in their own right, the story hinges on young teenager Annie Wheaton, whose powers extend even to telekinetics of large objects. Once the team of psychics, hounded by Carl Miller, his newspaper reporter student, and a post-cognitive psychic's possessive mother, enter the "dead cell" that is Rose Red, the action begins and surprise abound.
