Into the West is a mini-series that follows several generations of a white and a Native American family throughout the migration westward, during the 19th century, in the United States. Young Jacob Wheeler (Mathew Settle) joins the famous pioneer trapper, Jedediah Smith (Josh Brolin), where he learns about the West and Native American Ways. When Jedediah is killed and Jacob injured, he is taken in by a tribe where he is cared for by and eventually marries Thunder Heart Woman (Tonantzin Carmelo). Thunder Heart’s brother, Loved By the Buffalo (Simon Baker), has had a prophetic vision that the white man will obliterate his people. Thus, starts the epic tale of families of the Wheelers and Loved By the Buffalos. The tale follows each family member through events such as the Gold Rush, the Battle at Little Big Horn, and the dislocation of the Native Americans onto the reservations due to Manifest Destiny.
