As most ghost stories go, he cannot leave this world until he finishes his unfinished business. In his case, his unfinished business is trying to stop his widowed wife Gwen (Tea Leoni) from getting married to a jerk. To do this, he enlists the help of the Bert (Ricky Gervais) who can see dead people because he was actually killed for seven minutes during an operation but came back to life. However, Bert has his own problems to deal with first. He is an antisocial dentist who has no friends, dislikes his job, dislikes his neighbors, and has to deal with hordes of ghosts following him asking for help.
