The Whitfields live in Los Angeles in a very big house. Ma’Dere (Loretta Devine) lives there with her youngest boy, Baby (Chris Brown). Then Lisa (Regina King) comes with her children and a cheating, pushy spouse, Malcolm (Laz Alonso) he wants Lisa to make the family sell off their business so he can use their finances for a questionable scheme. Lisa’s sister Kelli (Sharon Leal) has better morals than Malcolm, while Claude (Columbus Short) returns on leave from the military, and Mel (Lauren London) is still in college but brings her lover Devan (Keith Robinson) home. Ma’Dere’s lover, Joe (Delroy Lindo), lives in the house too. Many dramas and problems occur over the holidays.
