In “Married Life”, we see a seemingly respectable executive, Harry (Chris Cooper) having lunch with his best friend, Richard (Pierce Brosnan). Harry confides that he plans to murder his wife (Patricia Clarkson). Harry has fallen in love with his girlfriend (Rachel McAdams) and rather than cause his wife the pain of asking for a divorce, he plans to kill her instead. At this lunch, we meet Harry’s girlfriend, Kay, and see that Richard is attracted to her as well. The characters all have surprises to them. The film is a commentary on what makes a successful partnership, not just marriage, but courtship and friendship as well. The action takes place in 1949, but has social relevance today as well.
